Casterne Hall is a Grade II* manor house stunningly set in its own grounds in the Peak District National Park . It is considered to be one of the most beautiful houses in the area and features in Simon Jenkins' book, ‘ England 's Thousand Best Houses'.

This property offers free access to HHA Friends and Members during normal opening hours - please check opening times.


Take first turning on left N of village and continue past ‘Caterne Farms only’.

Visitor Opening Times

2017: 2 - 26 May and 30 May - 9 June, weekdays only for 1 tour a day only at 3 pm prompt

The visitors’ toilet is on the ground floor and available for disabled visitors to use assisted by a carer.

Film Locations

There have been several films made at Casterne over the years including 'Jane Eyre', 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' and 'Far From the Madding Crowd'. Film-makers particularly like the fine buildings, pannelled rooms, wonderful countryside and absolute quiet.

Educational Facilities

School groups are welcome to visit the house and farm, which is rich in wildlife.

The fine Grade II* manor house has been a home of the Hurt family since the 16th century and is stunningly set in its own grounds in the Peak District National Park.
