Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF)

The HHA has provided assistance to the HLF to support the case for funding conservation work to privately owned heritage where public benefit is substantial. In the context of a projected rise in funds available to the HLF, after the Coalition’s rebalancing, and the development of HLF’s new strategic plan, the HHA has produced proposals for the various types of project that might be considered eligible for funding in the future.

We presented a set of case studies within the private sector demonstrating the scale and breadth of public benefit that would be produced. This was supplemented by advice on methodology for assessing public benefit. HLF has reported an unprecedented level of interest in the development of its new strategy. A clear majority of respondents thought more should be done to support heritage in private ownership.
