Speaking at the AGM of the Historic Houses Association on 11th November, HHA President, James Hervey-Bathust echoed again the sector's support for a new Bill to help protect the nation's heritage and, in partucular, the built heritage, two thirds of which is cared for by the private sector.

The HHA has criticised the Government's refusal to accept two parliamentary committees' views on coastal access which will prevent coastal landowners and businesses being able to appeal against the new right of public access being rolled out over their land

Nearly two dozen privately owned historic houses, members of the Historic Houses Association, will be opening free during Heritage Open Days which take place between Thursday 11th and Sunday 14th September. These houses, gardens, castles and estates, some of which are not generally open to the public, will be welcoming visitors with special openings and tours.

The Joint Committee scrutinising the draft Marine Bill has supported HHA's calls for an independent appeals process for those who will be negatively affected by the proposed new right of access to the English coast.
Wed 30th July
The HHA has welcomed today’s publication of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee’s report into the draft Heritage Protection Bill, in which the Committee supported the heritage sector’s calls for the legislation to be properly resourced, if it is to be effective. However, the HHA was disappointed that the Report did not fully endorse the extensive introduction of Heritage Partnership Agreements, which should enable sensitive, coherent and sustainable development of the use of listed buildings and will encourage their use in regeneration projects.
