Between 2006 - 2008, the programme ran across five regions to help heritage organisations reach out to new audiences.
Working with smaller historic places and community groups it aimed to develop confidence in working together to broaden their audiences. Embracing Difference delivered a series of highly creative and dynamic workshops, helped develop a number of case studies and delivered an inspirational best practice guide.
The programme was managed by The Heritage Alliance and funded by English Heritage. The HHA co-chaired the Programme Board and our member houses supported the workshops and looked at how they could make new connections.
The Heritage Alliance received further funding from English Heritage for Making a Difference to promote the Programme’s achievements and to develop a legacy. This included the creation of an online resource for organisations and communities showcasing the projects that were developed and promoting guidance and best practice.
