A Grade I Listed building of architectural and historical significance. Dating from the 14th century, the main body of the house is Elizabethan. Further re-modelling around 1750, to the designs of Thomas Iremonger, show charming gothic work with battlements and pointed arches.
Set in private grounds of lawns, gardens and woodland. The House's prominent elevation in the Chiltern Hills, a few miles from the Prime Minister's country retreat at Chequers, affords far reaching views along the Misbourne Valley.
Hampden House has often been used as a film location and past productions include Hornblower, Goodbye Mr Chipps and Love in a Cold Climate.
Civil Ceremonies and Wedding Receptions. Civil Ceremonies can take place in either the Great Hall, our oak panelled room or in the classically gilded dining room with views over the Chiltern Hills, for up to 120 guests. Wedding receptions take place in and around the house and grounds dependent on the season. We hold weddings throughout the year.
Autumn/Winter weddings can be further enhanced by the lighting of the fire in the inglenook fireplace, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for you and your guests. Spring/Summer weddings benefit from the use of the extensive grounds where Champagne and Pimms can be served on the lawns.
The wedding breakfast (for up to 100 guests) is served in the dining room and afterwards guests can relax in the bar and the Great Hall or join in the music and dancing in the adjacent Georgian Suite.
For larger weddings where guest numbers exceed 100, a marquee may be sited on the main lawn.
