Splendid early Victorian mansion built in Anglo-Italian style by John Thomas , with lavish architectural features, magnificent caved stonework and fine state rooms. Paintings by Landseer, Wright of Derby and Stanfield, woodcarvings by Willcox of Warwick, and Grinling Gibbons. Somerleyton's 12 acre gardens are renown with specimen trees and he 1846 yew hedge maze which ranks amongst the finest in the country. Special features include glasshouses by Paxton, 300ft pergola, walled garden Vulliamy tower clock, Victorian ornamentation.
Gardens, Maze and Tearooms are open 10am-5pm; Guided Hall tours 11.30am–3.30pm. Monday: Bank Holiday Mondays only (closed August 27), Tuesday: 10 April-25 September, Wednesday: 18 July-5 September, Thursday: 5 April–27 September, Friday & Saturdays: Closed, Sundays: 22 July-9 September (closed August 26). Gardens, Maze & Tearooms only (not Hall) open Sundays in May & June.
