The Tollemache family have lived in Suffolk since the Norman conquest and have lived at Helmingham since 1487. The Hall was completed in 1510, although the Garden moat predates the house and is probably of Saxon origin.

Today, the gardens are opened to visitors to enjoy this exceptional experience of these invigorating gardens with the traditional herbaceous borders, walled kitchen garden, herb and knot garden and hybrid musk roses, set in the 400 acre deer park. It would be hard to exaggerate the effect this beautiful park, the deer, spectacular moated Hall in mellow patterned brick work with it's famous Gardens will have on the visitor.

The captivating Gardens and coach house tea room draw a wide variety of visitors including groups, clubs and gardening associations from all over the world. The plant associations and colour combinations in all areas of the Garden are in immaculate taste, being both subtle yet alluring.

The traditional feel of the Garden is complimented by a wonderful balance of nature and modern accents. The influence of the Landscape and Garden Designer \"Xa Tollemache\" is clearly visible. A visit to the Garden makes a perfect afternoon out. There is a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy the serenity and beauty of the Garden and for visitors to lose themselves in the plethora of colour, scents and history.
