Built in 1889 by Thomas Harris for John Derby-Allcroft, a wealthy glove manufacturer, Stokesay Court is a magnificent example of late Victorian architecture with its high, galleried carved oak central hall and dramatic views over Ludlow and the nearby Clee Hills. The gardens were laid out by H E Milner. Mothballed for over 50 years, the major contents were sold in 1994. Now, following careful restoration, the house is enjoying a revival, retains many original features, and was recently used as a principle location for the film 'Atonement'.
