'As perfect and pretty a Cotswold manor house as anyone is likely to see' (Fodor's Great Britian 1998 guidebook). Stanway's beautiful architecture, furniture, parkland and village are now complimented by the restored 18th century water garden and the magnificent fountain - 165 feet high in 2003, and expected to rise to over 300 feet in 2004, making it the tallest garden fountain and gravity fountain in the world. One of the finest 19th century water gardens, restored in 1998, Stanway lies beneath the 700 feet-high Cotswold escarpment. Its grand formal canal, with 165 foot high fountain, stands on a great grass terrace overlooking the Jacobean manor house and is fed by a long Cascade issuing from a cirular pool behing the Pyramid. These water features, together with the surrounding parkland, planted with avenues and fine specimen trees, the wide lawns, wild flower meadows, grass mounds, orcahrds and walled garden, create a landscape, as peaceful and beautiful as any in Britian.
