In the 1920's Brigadier Heber-Percy decided to flood the valley below the house, digging out ornamental pools, and for 40 years planting the pool margins and slopes with azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias helped by the distinguished botanist, E A Bowles. The present owner has extended the seasonal planting with herbaceous borders. Extensive water gardens, magnolia walk and beech avenue crown one of England's greatest gardens. 1985 HHA/Christie's Garden of the Year Award winner.
