Arbury Hall, standing in the midst of rolling lawns, surrounded by many acres of beautiful parkland, seven miles from the centre of England has been the home of the Newdegate family since the 16th century.
This lovely Elizabethan mansion house with its 12th century monatic origins was Gothicised by Sir Roger Newdegate during the second half of the 18th century and with its soaring fan vaults, plunging pendant and filigree tracery, stands as the most breathtaking and complete example of early Gothick Revival architecture.
George Eliot, born on the estate in 1819 where her father was the agent, features Arbury in several of her novels, specially 'Scenes of Clerical Life.'
Pre-booked visits to the Hall and Gardens for groups of 25+ on Tues, Weds & Thurs from Easter to September. Hall & Gardens open on Bank Holiday weekends only (Sun and Mon) Easter-September. gates open 1.30pm close 6pm. Guided tour of Hall from 2pm. Last tour 4.30pm
