Chapel and Courtyard 18th Century (listed HB 9/8/1922). Set in about 300 acres of parkland in rural County Tyrone. The Stuart family are part of the Plantation of Ireland in 1610. In 1783 the 1st Earl carried out major building work on the site of an earlier house. In 1987 a single storey home replaced the Georgian house on the same foundations. The Walled Garden was built circa 1832 and later castellated walls with 2 folly towers backing onto an old rickyard were added. The Chapel is the only private consecrated Presbyterian chapel in Northern Ireland and now holds the family’s ancestral portraits. During WWII many evacuees were billeted at Stuart Hall. The estate is located three miles from the village of Stewartstown. Nearby is the 10th century Arboe Cross, a national monument, believed to be the first high cross in Ulster on the shores of Lough Neagh, the largest inland lake in the British Isles.
