Brantwood was the home of eminent Victorian, John Ruskin, from 1872 until his death in 1900. All areas of the original house and those which he himself added, are open to the public. Most of the furniture and all the paintings and objects are original to the house. Brantwood has a spectacular location with views across Coniston Water. The 250-acre estate comprises 8 distinctive gardens, ancient woodland, high moors and pastures and features Ruskin's own experimental landscape ideas.

March-Nov 11am - 5:30pm.
Nov - Mar 11am-4:30pm.

PLEASE NOTE THAT AS BRANTWOOD IS OWNED BY A REGISTERED CHARITY IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE HHA FRIENDS SCHEME AND MEMBERS & FRIENDS WILL HAVE TO PAY AN ENTRANCE FEE TO VISIT THIS PROPERTY

Organised groups are welcome to visit (during normal opening hours) all areas of the original house and those which Ruskin added. Short film to view about Ruskin's life, exhibitions in Severn Studio and Blue Gallery. 250-acre estate with 8 distinctive gardens. Craft Gallery and Restaurant.
