One of the first examples of Scottish romantic baronial revival architecture, built by sir Walter Scott on the proceeds of his famous Waverley novels. The house is filled with armour and Scott's collections, as well as memorabilia of the writer.

Daily from the 14th March in 2011 until 16th September 2011: Monday to Saturday, 9.30am – 5.00pm. Sundays in March, April, May: 11.00am – 4.00pm. Sundays in June, July, August and September: 9.30am – 5.00pm. Abbotsford will be closed every Monday from June 27th to July 25th 201.The Tearoom, Gift Shop, Gardens and Grounds will remain open on those days and can be accessed through the ticket office.
