Built for Patrick Home, a young Scottish laird, Paxton House is one of the finest 18th century Palladian country houses in Britain, featuring Adam interiors and fine collections of Chippendale and Trotter furniture. Includes the largest picture gallery in a Scottish country house, housing over 70 paintings from the National Galleries of Scotland. Twelve period rooms and the recently restored Regency kitchen which can often be viewed as a working kitchen. Boat House museum, 80 acres of gardens, woodland and riverside walks, gift shops, licensed tea-room, adventure playground, picnic areas, squirrel hide and changing exhibitions throughout the year.

Civil Ceremony and Wedding Reception



Set on the bank of the River Tweed, Paxton House is a delightful setting for a wedding. Your marriage ceremony can be held in the magnificent regency picture gallery decorated in 1874 for a wedding and restored recently to its former beauty. The gallery is the largest in any house in Scotland and can seat up to 140 guests. You can hold your reception and evening party in our function facility which comfortably caters for 80 people for a seated meal or an evening function. Alternatively a luxury marquee on the gallery lawn can hold the largest of bridal parties.
