The Setons built the Tower House of Winton in the 15th century on land granted to them by David I c.1152. Burnt under the orders of Henry VIII it was restored and later enlarged.

Guided tours

With a 500 year old house, a builder who was the King's Master mason and interiors furnished by one of the most wealthy heiresses near Scotland's Capital, there has to be something of interest to show visitors! Tours can take several hours but we try to keep them to 90 minutes.

We dont throw in references to Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie just because they are Scots celebs, but because the Setons, who originally built Winton were friends and associates of theirs.

Winton is open throughout the year for guided tours by arrangement and otherwise on set open days, in the Spring and Autumn. For pre arranged tours, we can provide refreshments with tea and scones or wine and a finger buffet or a picnic lunch. Prices on request.

Private and exclusive tours take about 1 and a half hours with 3 hours set aside for tours with food and refreshments. You are welcome to tour the gardens at your leisure. Minimum group sizes are 15, less than that will require a minimum fee to be paid. Please telephone for terms and conditions.

Accommodation Type: Holiday Cottage
Comfort, luxury, style, and peace and quiet characterise a stay at Winton's self-catering properties. Both are within walking distance of Winton House, and are available on a flexible, self-catering basis for weeks, weekends or weekdays. Wintonhill Farmhouse can sleep 12-14 people and Winton Cottage sleeps 10-12. Taken together, the properties offer bed spaces for up to 26 people.
