Home of the Duke of Roxburghe, built in 1721 to designs by William Adam and remodelled on baronial style by Playfair 1838-49, this immense and palatial house contains fine French furniture, porcelain and paintings. James II of Scotland was killed in the grounds when a cannon blew up during the siege of Roxburghe in 1460.
Features: Extensive parkland and gardens overlooking the Tweed provide a variety of woodland walks. Walled gardens with herbaceous borders and a magnificent French-style parterre has been constructed on the Queen's Lawn to commemorate the millennium.
