Three miles south of Ripon, tucked privately away down a mile-long winding drive, stands one of the most astonishing and romantic of Yorkshire's medieval houses. Built defensively in 1310 by Edward 11's Chancellor of the Exchequer John de Markenfield, it is still completely moated.
1-14 May; 19 Jun- 2 Jul: daily, 2-5pm. Groups all year round by appointment.
Please contact the property for up to date opening times
Markenfield remains completely moated and the approach takes you under the Tudor Gatehouse into the grass and cobble courtyard around which the main L shape of the Hall and and the farm buildings form a quadrangle. Internally there are 2 large rooms, a medieval chapel and numerous other small rooms of historical interest. The Hall is set within 600 acres of its own farmland.

Built defensively in 1310 by Edward 11's Chancellor of the Exchequer John de Markenfield, it is still completely moated. Rarely open to the public until 2001, this year the Hall can be visited by the public on just 28 afternoons - or as part of an organised group at almost any other time.
Specialist tours on a theme to suit your group are often available on request. Civil Ceremony and Wedding Reception
Unlike many venues, Markenfield does not offer a fixed wedding package. Because of the intimate nature of the venue we are able to be flexible and tailor your very special day to your needs, requirements and dreams...
For those wishing to have a Service of Blessing following their Civil Ceremony, the Hall is uniquely placed in having a beautiful mediaeval Chapel where both Catholic and Anglican Services can be held.
Because Markenfield is such a romantic, quiet place - and above all a family home - we ask that you limit the number of guests to 35.
For details of marriage at Markenfield, please ring Lady Deirdre Curteis on 01765 603411. E-mail: info@markenfield.com
