A 16th century manor house built by Sir William Petre, Secretary of State to four Tudor monarchs. Elizabeth I spent several nights at the Hall on her Royal Progress of 1561. Sir William's descendants still live in the house which largely retains its Tudor form and appearance (including two priest's hiding places). On display are furniture, family portraits and other pictures accumulated over the centuries, together with memorabilia of 15 generations of the Petre family.

Available as a film/tv location. Past productions have been many and varied and include: Lady Audley's Secret, Lovejoy, Bleak House, Music Videos, Adverts and Documentaries.
A) Mainly for Primary Schools - All day visits (approx. 10am-2.30pm) comprising guided tour and opportunity for children to carry out projects set by teacher
B) Mainly for Primary Schools and for a limited period in the summer - All day (10am-2.30pm) re-enactment in costume of 16th century life, in which children actively participate.
