Splendid Norman Keep built c. 1140 by the famous de Veres, Earls of Oxford. Besieged by King John and visited by King Henry VII, King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. Magnificent Banqueting Hall with Minstrels' Gallery, and fine decorative stonework.
