A square, ochre stuccoed Palladian house of the 1750's built around an earlier one by Robert Allanson and tucked into the warm Cornish countryside. 19th century additions to the library and music room serve to enhance the house's important collection of family pictures (by Reynolds, Raeburn and Scott) and the good furniture amassed by the discerning owners.
Features: Pencarrow's owner in the 1830's made the mile-long drive through an ancient British encampment. He planted all conifers known at the time to survive in England, rhododendrons (now over 650 species) and camellias, and he constructed an Italian garden, a granite rockery and the lake.
House, Peacock Café & Shop: 28 Mar-30 Sept, Sun-Thur. House tours from 11am-3pm, Café & shop 11am-5pm. Gardens: 1 Mar-31 Oct: daily.
